Counselling for International & Intercultural Couples
When two worlds meet inside one relationship
Loving across cultures can be beautiful, expansive, confusing, funny, tender, and occasionally bewildering.
I offer English-language relationship counselling and coaching for international, intercultural, and interracial couples navigating life across countries, cultures, languages, families, identities, lived experiences, and different ways of understanding relationships.
Sometimes the differences between you are obvious. Sometimes they only become visible when you collide around something that seemed completely ordinary to one of you.
Together, we can become curious about the worlds each of you carries and the relationship you are creating between them.

Sometimes the disagreement is bigger than what’s on the surface
One person thinks something is obvious. The other genuinely experiences it differently.
What looks like a disagreement about money, family, communication, household responsibilities, independence, affection, or holidays may also carry different histories and assumptions about what love, care, respect, responsibility, privacy, or partnership are supposed to look like.
Neither person necessarily has the whole picture.
Relationship work can create space to become curious about the landscape underneath the argument, rather than repeatedly trying to determine whose interpretation is correct.
You might be finding your way through...
recurring misunderstandings that seem surprisingly difficult to resolve
different communication styles or expectations around conflict
differences in closeness, independence, affection, sex, or intimacy
family expectations and involvement
different relationships to money, work, power, gender roles, or household responsibilities
deciding where to live or whose country becomes “home”
immigration, relocation, or the strain of building a life somewhere new
one partner having more language fluency, community, financial security, or familiarity with local systems
loneliness or the loss of support networks after moving
raising children across cultures or languages
navigating religion, traditions, holidays, or extended family
feeling that important parts of yourself are difficult for your partner to fully understand
wanting to build a shared culture without losing your own
Whatever you’re facing, we’ll take time to slow down with it, together. Sometimes the relationship simply needs more room to understand all the worlds already living inside it.
Every relationship has its own geography
Each person arrives carrying a landscape shaped by family, culture, language, place, history, identity, community, and experience. Then you begin creating something together. Your relationship develops its own rituals, agreements, meanings, ways of caring, conflicts, inside jokes, traditions, and ideas about home.
And all of this is happening within a wider ecosystem: immigration systems, jobs, money, family across borders, unfamiliar languages, friendships, belonging, health, community, and decisions about where a shared future might unfold.
Our work can help us look at the whole landscape. We might wonder:
What does care look like in each of your worlds?
What did each of you learn about conflict, closeness, responsibility, and independence?
Where do your assumptions meet easily?
Where do they rub against one another?
Where does one person have more access, familiarity, support, or freedom than the other?
What have each of you given up or gained in building this life?
What parts of your relationship already belong uniquely to the two of you?
The aim is to get to know each of your unique landscapes more deeply and to support you to become more able to meet one another within them.
Making the invisible a little more visible
My approach is relational, embodied, collaborative, and experiential.
Sometimes we slow down a difficult interaction and notice how each person experienced it from where they were standing.
We may explore the meanings underneath words, the relational maps each of you inherited, how care is expressed and recognized, or the places where one partner’s completely ordinary expectation feels foreign to the other.
Sometimes the work is practical: communication, boundaries, decision-making, family relationships, shared responsibilities, and repair.
Sometimes we wander further into belonging, grief, identity, home, power, sacrifice, intimacy, loneliness, and what it means to build a shared life between worlds.
My work draws from more than ten years of counselling and relationship experience, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, somatic and experiential approaches, Internal Family Systems, ACT, mindfulness, attachment-informed work, and trauma-informed relational practice.
There is more than one way to belong together
I work with couples and partners across many kinds of international and intercultural relationships, including:
partners from different countries or cultural backgrounds
expat and immigrant couples
relationships where one partner has relocated for the other
interracial relationships
multilingual couples
couples navigating different religious or family traditions
third-culture and internationally mobile people
queer and trans international couples
polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships
couples deciding where in the world to build a life together
Culture is one part of the landscape, alongside personality, history, identity, family, circumstance, and the particular people you have become.

What might become possible if you could see more of each other’s world?
You do not need to arrive knowing how to resolve every difference between you. The first step can simply be creating enough space to become curious together.
